LDBG completed a full renovation of the first floor of our log home. Mark was very involved throughout the process, working with us and a designer. The work involved demolition of a large fireplace, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom and reconstruction for an upgrade. He managed contractors like electricians and plumbers well. He and his crew are very professional, the work was carried out soundly and on time. He accommodated changes along the way. In Spring of 2019, we hired Mark and his team to remodel our lakefront home. We presented Mark with plans from a local architect and together we we finalized a plan to see our vision become reality. We hit a few snags along the way with township building regulations, but Mark stayed true to his commitment through to the end. Mark and his team were a pleasure to work with, always polite and respectful, and even catered to our cat on occasion. But, most importantly, was their attention to detail. Mark and his crew did a stellar job. We hired Mark’s company, Lanark Design/Build Group, on the excellent reputation it has in the community and on work done on the house for the previous owner. Communications were thorough, we were appraised immediately when unforeseen issues arose, and Mark’s response to any enquiries was very timely. Invoices are clear and very well documented. The various members of his crew were all very knowledgeable and professional. We had some foundation remediation work done and a new deck installed. All work was done to higher-than-code standards and we are more than happy with the results. Having a house built was a big, emotional undertaking, having known so little about what it entailed. The Lanark/Design Build Group team got me through a few unpleasant hurdles (not of their doing), helping me to sleep at night. Although the overall house build was quite expensive (as are all house builds these days), I feel I have a house that will last me a very long time, because Mark and his team build above and beyond code and do not cut corners to save money. Mark addressed any questions or concerns I had during the build and continues to do so today. He has always responded within 24 hours with a thorough answer and/or solution, even if the question or concern was outside of the scope of the work his team completed.. This is a business you can trust to complete your building project. They have a wealth of knowledge and Mark happens to have a good sense of humor, which is an added bonus.

I had the opportunity of having LDBG rebuild a dormer on my Heritage Home Roof. They not only did a great replica of original design the workmanship is beyond perfect. This new Dormer will last another hundred plus years. Great carpenters to work with, they very accommodating and professional. It’d easy to say I am more than a satisfied customer.

A few years ago, we hired L.D.B.G. to do a small exterior siding job for us. We were so impressed by their professionalism, the quality of their workmanship and their attention to detail that when we decided to renovate our 1950s cabin, we immediately asked Mark Tritton if he would take on the project. During the renovation, the Landmark Design team guided us through the process of improving the cabin and making it structurally sound, and kept us well informed as the work progressed. The electrician and carpenters walked us through every detail and made sure that everything was done just right. L.D.B.G. is a group we have been delighted to engage for 2 major projects. In each, they demonstrated professionalism, commitment, creativity and expertise. I have particularly appreciated the level of skill L.D.B.G. demonstrated, bringing our old home into the present day while still maintaining its charm. Lanark Design and Build Group completed a relatively large-scale project which incorporated excavation, supplemental drainage, concrete retaining walls, a large concrete pad, installation of exterior electrical for my hot tub/lights/plugs etc., addition of exterior access to my basement, installation of a cold storage room, construction of a lean-to/shelter at one end of my home and a large deck including a beautifully finished three season/screen porch on the back of my home. The project faced a number of challenges primarily due to covid – including product shortages, delays due to availability, work shut-downs, changing plans and skyrocketing costs. They project has now been completed for a couple of years and I couldn’t be happier with the final result. The workmanship is superb, and the screen porch has now become my favorite space for hosting, watching TV, eating, working, relaxing etc. during the seasons it can be used. So much so that I am seriously considering adding a permanent heat source to it in order to allow it to be used more in the colder months. I would recommend them without reservation for any project you may be considering.

A couple of months ago a neighbor recommended the Lanark Design/Build Group for renovations in a condo I own in Perth. I called Mark Tritton and that same day I met him on site, and among other things, talked over my intention to open up part of a non-load-bearing wall. I found everyone in this company extremely professional and expert in each of their fields – painting, electrical, structural and drywall. After the renovation crew had created a doorway where the wall had been, the painter came in and completed his work in a timely and efficient manner. In 2020-21, we had Mark and his team build an addition to our our 1830’s stone home. The design was completed by Erika Shea, then in the Hay Design team. The project suffered some challenges partly due to being in the heart of COVID-19 but overall we were extremely pleased with the attention to detail in construction science, general workmanship, etc. Deviations from original plans sometimes ended up in longer timelines and additional cost, but Mark honored all original commitments even though COVID had pushed costs upward. Our addition was reviewed for design awards, and has been complimented thoroughly by anyone that has visited post completion. This video captures the process: Perth Construction I would highly recommend The Lanark Design Build Group, especially if you’re trying to create new or updated living space in harmony with heritage structures.
I contacted The Lanark Design Build Group to discuss screening in part of my porch. I didn’t know how much of the porch to screen or what the end result should look like. It turned out better than I could have imagined. It certainly looks like it belongs to the house.
We were impressed with the overall vision as well as the attention to detail. The LDBG workers are hardworking and friendly, and you can tell they enjoy their work. We enjoyed being able to participate as well with our wood-staining skills. That made a nice hands-on summer project for us, so although the porch is just finished, it already comes with happy memories.
The level of communication through the stages of the project was excellent. The initial quote was very detailed, and the interim bills very clear, and the final cost of the project came in exactly as quoted. They also never hesitated to stop and explain the details of the construction and design elements. I highly recommend them!

Our home was built in 1995 to a high standard (R-2000+), and we wanted to achieve the same high standard with this project. LDBG met our expectations by providing construction expertise that includes an eye for pleasing design features as well as great attention to detail. The estimate left nothing out, and their interim bills were equally detailed. In addition, the final cost came in at within $1.50 of the estimate! The LDBG crew members were hardworking and committed to the task, and a pleasure to have around. They fitted in completely, but unobtrusively, with our household — both people and animals! We contracted Mark Tritton (LDBG) for 2 projects over the past 2 years(2015-16). The first was for the design and complete (plumbing, electrical, heating, windows and doors all replaced) renovation of our summer cottage into a year-round residence. The renovation included making 2 additions to the building as well as adding 2 decks. The 2nd project done in the 2nd year was to design and build a new detached 2 car garage with sleeping quarters built in the 2nd floor.
Mark worked very closely with us during the design phase to deliver plans that met our needs and wants as closely as possible. He was very patient with us and dealt with every question and suggestion in an open and honest fashion. Final decisions were always ours to make but he always gave us the benefit of his experience and knowledge prior to finalizing plans. The plans he delivered to us were computer generated and were detailed enough to use as building blue prints. Once plans were completed and detailed costing for all aspects of the projects were provided, we were able to customize the contracts to include or exclude certain aspects of the project. For example, in our case, we decided to do most of the painting ourselves and therefore this work was excluded from the contract. Mark was very open to us making such changes.
The construction phase was long and fell behind schedule as often is the case when the contractor has to deal with multiple sub-contractors. Mark kept us appraised of progress and we always knew when and why there were holdups. Most of the delays were beyond his control. We received invoices throughout the building phase and all invoices were clear and detailed. Mark was always prepared to discuss or explain any item in his invoices. We never had cause to reject any invoices received. Actual costs agreed very closely with the initial project costing and we feel the costs were fair. As construction proceeded, we often changed our minds about how something was to be done or extra work was simply added on. Again, Mark was very open to all these changes.
The work Mark and his workers has done for us is of the highest quality and we are very pleased with the outcome of both projects. We know that all his work will stand the test of time. As with any project there are always problems with some of the work (mostly that of sub-contractors) that were caught during and after construction. Any such problems that were brought to Marks attention were resolved in a reasonable time frame and usually at no cost to us. In resolving problems, Mark would always choose to make a correction the right way rather than looking for a cheaper short cut. He pays close attention to details and always tries to make things better.
The workers that Mark employs are hard working and honest. They seem to enjoy their work and are always willing to put in long hours. Mark keeps a close eye on their work and they have benefited from his knowledge, experience and strong work ethic. We are very pleased with the outcome of both projects and will not hesitate to use his services again in the future.

In 2008 I had requested quotes for the construction of a cottage on the Big Rideau Lake. The quote would cover the demolition of the current cottage (a small frame cottage that had been originally a dry boathouse) and the building of a 1 1/2 story, 4 season, slab on grade cottage. Mark Tritton was the only contractor who quoted with a multi-page, typed, professionally detailed document that made it clear that I could work with this contractor to get the job done the way I had imagined. All quotes should be thought of as “the best beginning document” that can be discussed and as the job progresses minor adjustments in detail and cost will be considered normal. This was the case with Mark Tritton… no surprises and lots of communication ongoing. Mark prides himself as an “over-builder” which means that his structures surpass the regular building codes but not to the point of passing on an undisclosed expense to the client. Mark is quite clear about his plans to build for you. I would recommend Mark Tritton’s workmanship to anyone who wishes to have a quality job done and at the completion of the project to be satisfied with the fairness of the relationship to further recommend his work to others.
